How to stay connected with creative people
Connecting and practicing your art with fellow creative people is one of THE MOST important aspects to your creative health. But at the Artory we understand that not everyone can attend our art classes in Kingscliff and art classes on the Gold Coast. So for those unable to join in, are there are other ways to surround yourself with creative people and keep your arts practice ignited? Yes! Here are our top tips for keeping socially and creatively connected with fellow artists:
Art Classes Online
If for any number of reasons in-person art classes are out of the question, you can still get lessons from artists online. Here at the Artory we have a huge range of courses online, including both drawing and painting classes for kids and online art classes adults. These can be paid one-on-one classes over video-chat platforms such as Skype with experts in a particular style or medium, courses from eLearning platforms or free video series on Youtube.
Estimated time: 10-60 minutes each, however often you like
Local Art Classes
If you look hard enough, most places offer art classes locally (as do we if you’re looking for art classes in Kingscliff). If you can't make it to one of the Artory art classes, you should check out the local councils, newspapers, adult education centres, art schools and community centres in your area. Or you could book an entire holiday with an itinerary of classes, galleries and sketching time (artable has some fantastic weekend workshops and art holidays to offer with the Artory's very own Anne Smerdon)
Estimated time: 1 or 2 hours each
Informal Art Groups
Unlike paid classes, art groups are usually more informal, casual and more about community and feedback than improving skills. You can either join or, if you’re particularly adventurous, create a group. Look online for informal groups in your area.
Estimated time: 30 minutes to 2 hours a week
Art parties
Adult art parties are a modern phenomenon, and make an unusual and memorable experience. Organise a morning, afternoon or evening of creativity with friends, either just for the fun of it, or for a special occasion. This option is like an extended class, with a heightened atmosphere of light-heartedness and exploration.
Estimated time: 2 hours
Art therapy sessions
If you feel drawn to art as an escape from negative thought patterns and listlessness, art therapy sessions might be for you. Professional therapists can help you combat conditions such as anxiety, depression and recovery.
Estimated time: 30 minutes to 2 hours, however often you need it
