watercolour masterclass
Are you looking for a relaxing, creative hobby?
Have you tried watercolour painting before but couldn’t get the hang of it?
Or are you looking for the perfect art medium to take on travels?
Then this watercolour masterclass is for you!
a guide to watercolour painting for beginners
What’s it all about?
Whether you’re new to watercolour painting or have been using it for many years, this 2-part masterclass is about taking the frustration out of watercolour and making it effortless and fun. I’ll show you how to get watercolour to do all the work for you, so you don’t have to painstaking spend hours blending, layering or changing your design! Watercolour can and should be quick, easy and FUN!
In this masterclass you’ll create a frame-worthy watercolour painting of a humpback whale swimming through the ocean. And in the process you’ll gain the skills and confidence to push yourself to new heights with the medium of watercolour!
SESSION 1
Session 1 is all about clarifying exactly what watercolour painting is and how it works. I made this class to help my new watercolour students learn my system for painting with watercolour but its proven timeless even for advanced students (many have said it was one of the most helpful watercolour videos they have seen!). You’ll learn:
What is watercolour
What materials to use and what not to use (the #1 mistake most beginner watercolorists make is using the wrong materials!)
The 2 main techniques for watercolour: wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry
The “Smerdon System of watercolour” (my unique techniques and terms including: glazing, moozsch moozsch-ing, sloshing and feathering).
SESSION 2
Session 2 is where we paint our whale and ocean scene. You’ll learn:
How to use watercolour to create the effect of water
How to let go, loosen up and stop overworking your watercolours
The importance of tones and why your art will always look dull, flat and lifeless without them
How to paint less but achieve more! Let the watercolour do the work so you don’t have to!
Who is this class for?
This class is absolutely suitable for complete beginners, even if you’ve never used watercolour before (you’ll only need a few materials so it won’t take much to get set up). But it’s also perfect for advanced watercolorists who want to loosen up their style and learn how to let the watercolour do the work! I’ve tried and tested this project with my local students and the results were fantastic:
