FUN painting and drawing activities for kids school holidays

Whether it’s due to lockdowns, the weather or just circumstances, sometimes we have to spend the school holidays at home. That’s all well and good if you haven’t tried our online painting classes for kids yet. But what if you’ve already finished the course?!? Don’t worry, we’re working on the next one. But in the meantime, being inside doesn’t have to be boring! Here at the Artory, we’ve put together these FUN art activities for kids of all ages that will create hours of fun and silence the cries of “I’m bored”!

Rock Painting

This is a fun one! Go out to the garden find some smooth stones that are big enough to paint. Grab the paints (acrylic works best here) and brushes and get painting, there are soooo many painting ideas on pinterest for inspiration. And if you need extra painting tips, our online painting workshop for kids will teach you blending, mixing colours and design ideas (even though it’s based on watercolour the techniques still apply to acrylic).

One of our favourites are these cute little cactus rocks.

Paint with dirt and sticks

There is art inspiration and materials all around you! Sometimes, we just need someone to show us what to do with them. This activity will take you back out to the garden, get your kids to pick some leaves off a tree, grab some sticks, dip them in paint and start their masterpiece.

Here are some pieces our talented students made in our Kingscliff art classes for kids (the teen class in particular). Using this method, these chickens were created with.....

...dirt and sticks!

Yep, we used the gorgeous, red dirt of Kingscliff and rubbed it into the paper. Then we collected some of the macadamia twigs and dipped them in ink to draw the rest of the chickens.

Paint with bubbles

Parents you may remember doing this when you were young! I'm sure your kids will love it as much as you did!

You can buy bubble paint, but it's also very easy to make on your own (just make sure you use non toxic paint and dish soap) add water, mix it all together, and blow some air into the paint mixture – parental supervision recommended here ;)

Enrol in painting classes for kids

Art classes for kids are a great way for your children to explore their creative side. We run art classes for kids online and at Farm and Co in Kingscliff. We focus on drawing classes for kids and painting classes for kids, all from the comfort of your own home. No help from grown ups is required (yep, go ahead and pour yourself a glass of wine parents, while your kids create masterpieces you can enjoy some well-deserved "me time"). Our kids classes all use basic supplies available at most art stores or discount stores, so it’s never been easier to get the kids creating at home.
