PORTRAIT PAINTING SESSIONS (untutored)
Last Sunday of the month, 1-4:30pm at the Tweed Regional Gallery
Drawing/painting from life is arguably the most important practice for artists. But often we don’t do it because none of us can afford to pay a model to sit for us! So this is your opportunity! We’ve organised the model, the venue, the music. All you need to do is bring your pencils/paints (we have easels, tables and chairs)
NEXT DATES:
Sunday 22 February
Sunday 29 march
Sunday 26 April
Sunday 31 May
Sunday 26 July
Sunday 30 August
Sunday 27 September
Sunday 25 October
Sunday 29 November
What to expect from the Untutored Portrait Sessions:
paint from a live model (clothed)
3 hours, one long pose (with a few brief tea breaks here and there)
no judgment painting space. This is your time to practice drawing/painting from life. There is no judgement on what you create on the day. It is just a practice session to train your observation skills, a space to experiment. All levels welcome! The best way to improve your painting is to paint from life. So no matter how amateurish you feel, you are welcome! We all start somewhere!
artist networking. One of the best ways to meet other artists, chat about galleries, selling your work etc is through these sessions!
Our models in 2026 will be practicing artists so this is a great opportunity for anyone who may wish to enter a portrait into the Archibald Prize or Portia Geach Prize as they require the sitter to be “recognised in the arts”
It’s also a great way to practice for the Portrait Artist of the Year ABC televised painting program!
