WHAT TO BRING TO

WATERCOLOUR PAINTING CLASSES

  • 2B & 6B pencil, sharpener, kneadable eraser, ruler, scissors

  • Masking tape

  • a roll of toilet paper or paper towel

  • Watercolour paper - 1 sheet Arches 300gsm cold press paper (56 x 76mm). You can purchase these from me here and have them ready for you in class. Cut this up into 6x smaller sheets (21 x 28cm) as indicated below. You’ll have 2 narrow pieces left over at the end. (please don’t bring other brands of watercolour paper (I explain why in my article here). Arches also allows us the opportunity to use masking fluid, which doesn’t work on cheaper papers with inferior sizing (like Rains).

Watercolour brushes - a large and small round, natural hair brush (I like goat hair ones and I like one with about 1cm diameter bristles and one about 0.5cm diameter bristles. You’ll also need a rigger brush (this can be synthetic hair) (I have brush kits available to order for class here that are really affordable but for more information please read my blog on watercolour brushes)

  • Large Plastic watercolour palette (there’s a photo of the palette I use here, try to find one with deep wells. I got mine from the Art Shed)

  • Watercolour tube paints - Use what you have! Don’t feel the need to go out and buy new colours BUT if you want the same colours as me, I’ve chosen the following high Chroma colours from Winsor & Newton:

❤️ Cadmium Red PR108 (Cadmium Red Light would be fine too)

    ❤️ Quinacridone Magenta PR122

💙 Winsor Blue red shade PB15 (also known as Phthalo Blue red shade) or Ultramarine Blue

💛 Cadmium Lemon PY35 (Winsor Lemon, Winsor Yellow, Aureolin are fine too)

    ♡ GOUACHE - Titanium White

    🎨 Optional:

  • 💙 Cobalt turquoise light and

  • 💗 Opera Rose PR122 (or Permanent Rose PV19)
