What to expect from out Untutored Portrait Sessions:
untutored (this is a space for our Artory tutors to hone their skills as well, so if you’d like assistance try one of our other art classes)
paint from a live model (clothed)
3 hours, one long pose (with a few brief tea breaks here and there)
no judgment painting space. This is your time to practice drawing/painting from life. There is no judgement on what you create on the day. It is just a practice session to train your observation skills, a space to experiment. All levels welcome! The best way to improve your painting is to paint from life. So no matter how amateurish you feel, you are welcome! We all start somewhere!
artist networking. One of the best ways to meet other artists, chat about galleries, selling your work etc is through these sessions!
*please note these sessions are not refundable. Spaces are limited, the price is affordable ($20 is ridiculously cheap!) and we need to pay our model, regardless of whether you show up.
FAQ’S about the live portrait painting sessions:

We generally run on the last Sunday of the month, 9:30am-12:30pm at the Artists Apothecary in Murwillumbah.

These sessions are untutored, as it is an opportunity for our Artory tutors to practice their own skills as well. If you’d like assistance please book into one of our adult art classes.

Bring whatever you’d like to draw or paint with. If you are bringing solvents or oil mediums please ensure they are odourless or low toxic.

Absolutely! Working from life is one of the best ways to learn, so we absolutely want beginners to give this a go! This is a judgement free space, we are all practicing working from life so there is no judgement about what you create in this space.

The portrait sessions are a community service run by Artory. Your $20 booking fee pays for the model, Artory does not make a profit.
As such, bookings are non-refundable. This helps us keep the sessions affordable to all, by reducing the time we spend rescheduling and finding someone to take your spot.

Your health and safety is of utmost importance. We follow all NSW government advice and guidelines.
By attending our classes you agree to abide by the current local government mandates and regulations, including mask-wearing, hand sanitising, vaccination status, checking-in using the covid-safe QR code and physical distancing. You agree to not attend classes if you show any signs of sickness.
